Anthropic partners with SpaceX on computing power, gains access to over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs

Early this morning, Anthropic announced a computing power partnership with SpaceX, gaining full access to the resources at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center. Under the agreement, Anthropic will receive over 300 megawatts of additional computing capacity this month, involving more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs.
Anthropic stated that this new computing power will be directly used to enhance service capacity for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers. The company also announced adjustments to usage limits for Claude Code and the Claude API, effective immediately.
- Double the five-hour rate limit for Claude Code, applicable to Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans;
- Remove peak-hour throttling for Pro and Max accounts using Claude Code;
- Significantly increase the API rate limits for the Claude Opus series models.
As an extension of this collaboration, Anthropic expressed interest in exploring joint development with SpaceX on gigawatt-scale orbital AI computing infrastructure, though specific plans have not yet been disclosed.

ChatGPT ad platform expands: Self-serve ads launch, pay-per-click now available

Yesterday, OpenAI officially expanded its ChatGPT advertising system by launching a test version of its self-serve Ads Manager for U.S. advertisers. The update introduces a pay-per-click (CPC) bidding model and conversion measurement tools, enabling businesses of all sizes to directly run ads within ChatGPT.
On bidding, ChatGPT previously only supported cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM). With the addition of CPC, advertisers now pay only when users click on their ads, better aligning ad spending with actual user engagement. OpenAI said it plans to support additional bidding and optimization objectives in the future.
For measurement, OpenAI has launched a Conversions API and pixel tracking, allowing advertisers to track post-click user actions such as purchases, sign-ups, or form submissions. However, the data provided is aggregated and does not include personal conversation content.
On purchasing, advertisers can now register, set budgets and bids, upload creatives, manage campaigns, and view performance data directly through Ads Manager—no third-party agency required.
OpenAI emphasized in its announcement that ChatGPT responses remain independent from ads, and user conversations are not shared with advertisers. The ad platform remains in early stages, with further expansions to ad formats, targeting options, and platform capabilities expected.
DeepSeek’s first funding round revealed, valued at $45 billion

According to the Financial Times, multiple institutions are currently vying to lead DeepSeek’s first funding round. If negotiations proceed smoothly, DeepSeek could reach a valuation of approximately $45 billion in this round. The final list of investors has not yet been confirmed.
Samsung announces halt of all home appliance sales in mainland China

Yesterday, Samsung (China) Investment Co., Ltd. officially issued a notice regarding adjustments to its home appliance business: “To respond to rapidly changing market conditions, after careful consideration, Samsung Electronics has decided to cease sales of all home appliances—including TVs and monitors—in the mainland China market.”
The discontinuation covers a full range of household products including televisions, monitors, large commercial displays, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, washer-dryer combos, garment care machines, audio systems, projectors, vacuum cleaners, and air purifiers.
For existing customers who have purchased Samsung appliances, the company stated it will continue to provide after-sales services strictly in accordance with the Consumer Rights Protection Law and national warranty regulations. Users experiencing performance issues may visit authorized service centers for inspection and troubleshooting.
This adjustment does not affect smartphone operations. Samsung explicitly stated that “mobile phones will continue normal sales.” After the adjustment, consumer electronics sold by Samsung in mainland China will primarily consist of smartphones and storage products.
Apple to pay $250 million in compensation over delayed AI Siri, up to $95 per iPhone

On May 5 local time, Apple formally reached a $250 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit over false advertising claims related to the delayed rollout of the new Siri.
According to 9To5Mac, the $250 million settlement covers owners in the United States who purchased Apple Intelligence-compatible devices between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. Eligible devices include the iPhone 15 Pro series and all iPhone 16 series models (including the 16e).
Eligible single-device owners are expected to receive $25 in compensation, with the exact amount dynamically adjusted based on the number of claims submitted. The maximum payout per device is capped at $95.
Apple did not admit any wrongdoing in the settlement and maintains that its business practices comply with relevant regulations.
An Apple spokesperson responded that since the release of Apple Intelligence, the company has rolled out dozens of features including Visual Intelligence, real-time translation, and writing tools. The settlement aims to swiftly resolve disputes around “two features that were not delivered on schedule,” allowing the company to focus its core efforts on product innovation.
Google says Android will not introduce "liquid glass"

Yesterday, Sameer Samat, head of Google Android, posted a 15-second teaser video on X to promote The Android Show event scheduled for May 12. In the video, the Android mascot Bugdroid pulls down a light switch, turning its appearance transparent and glass-like—prompting speculation among users that Android might follow Apple in introducing a "liquid glass" UI design.
In response, Samat explicitly denied the speculation on Twitter, stating directly, “This won’t happen.” Engineer Mishaal Rahman quickly followed up with clarification.
The Android Show will be livestreamed on YouTube at 10:00 AM Pacific Time on May 12 (1:00 AM Beijing Time on May 13), where more details about Android 17 and progress on Google’s desktop-focused Aluminium OS project are expected to be revealed.
Wang Teng launches Douyin and Xiaohongshu accounts; Zhin Rixiu’s first product in development

Yesterday, Wang Teng, former General Manager of Xiaomi China’s Marketing Department and Redmi Brand Director, launched his Douyin and Xiaohongshu accounts under the name “Wang Teng Thomas (Zhin Rixiu Edition)” and posted his first video. His profile reads: “Founder & CEO of Zhin Rixiu Technology.” In the video, Wang officially confirmed the brand name as “ISHO.”

According to LatePost, Moonshot AI, parent company of Kimi, is about to complete a new $2 billion funding round, pushing its post-investment valuation beyond $20 billion. The round is led by Meituan Longzhu, with participation from China Mobile and CPE (CITIC Private Equity), with Longzhu alone investing over $200 million.
In January and February this year, Kimi completed three consecutive funding rounds, raising $500 million, $700 million, and $700 million respectively. Including this latest round, Kimi has raised over $3.9 billion in less than six months—its valuation more than quadrupling from approximately $4.3 billion in November last year.
To date, Kimi has raised over 37.6 billion RMB in total, making it the most heavily funded startup among large model companies.
Samsung market cap exceeds $1 trillion

According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung Electronics’ stock surged 13% in early trading yesterday, pushing its market capitalization past $1 trillion to approximately 1530 trillion KRW (about $1.04 trillion). This makes Samsung the second Asian-listed company, after TSMC, to surpass the $1 trillion threshold.
Samsung’s recently released Q1 financial report showed record highs in revenue, net profit, and operating profit, with over 90% of the company’s operating profit coming from its chip manufacturing division. Fueled by Samsung’s rally, South Korea’s KOSPI index jumped 6.7% yesterday to 7402.18 points, breaking above the 7000-point mark for the first time.
The report attributes Samsung’s rising market value to strong demand for memory chips driven by AI infrastructure development. Samsung stated that its production capacity for this year is already fully booked, and revenue from high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products is expected to more than double. The newly launched HBM4 could account for over half of total HBM revenue.
BYD becomes UK's top EV brand, year-to-date sales up 124%

According to Carscoops, citing data from the UK’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), BYD sold 12,754 all-electric vehicles in the UK during the first four months of this year, capturing over 7% market share and becoming the UK’s top-selling EV brand, surpassing BMW, Tesla, and Volkswagen.
BYD also stated it has become the best-selling EV brand among private buyers in the UK. Notably, none of BYD’s models qualify for the UK’s electric vehicle subsidy, which offers up to £3,750 off eligible vehicles.
BYD attributed its sales growth to a broad product lineup, with prices ranging from £18,675 (~RMB 170,000) for the Dolphin Surf (Seagull) to £47,025 (~RMB 435,000) for the Sealion 7 (Sea Lion 07 EV), covering multiple price segments.
Bono Ge, BYD’s UK head, said the UK EV market grew 22% year-on-year this year, and BYD has achieved this leading position just over three years after entering the market.
Since the beginning of this year, BYD's total sales in the UK (including all powertrain types) have surged 124% year-on-year to reach 26,396 units, surpassing several European brands including Citroën (12,142 units), Cupra (15,171 units), Dacia (10,250 units), Fiat (2,320 units), Land Rover (25,313 units), MINI (18,814 units), and Renault (23,645 units).
BMW Group Q1 Revenue Falls 8.1% to €31.007 Billion, Net Profit Down 23.1%

Yesterday, BMW Group released its first-quarter financial results, reporting total revenue of €31.007 billion, down 8.1% year-on-year, with net profit falling 23.1% to €1.672 billion. During the quarter, BMW Group delivered 565,780 vehicles globally, a 3.5% decline from the same period last year. By brand:
- The BMW brand delivered 496,006 units, down 4.6% year-on-year, with one in ten being an M model;
- The MINI brand achieved sales growth for the fifth consecutive quarter, delivering 68,503 units, up 6.0% year-on-year, with battery electric models accounting for 35.1% of total MINI deliveries;
- Rolls-Royce delivered 1,271 units, down 8.0%;
- BMW Motorrad delivered 42,735 motorcycles and scooters, down 4.2%.
Pre-tax profit (EBT) was €2.348 billion, down 24.6%. On the cost side, sales costs decreased by 6.4%, while administrative and selling expenses fell by 5.1%. Capital expenditures were reduced to €1.723 billion in Q1, down 38.9% compared to €2.819 billion in the same period last year.
The MINI brand was one of the few divisions to achieve positive sales growth this quarter, increasing global deliveries for five consecutive quarters, with over one-third of its deliveries now being fully electric. In its report, BMW Group highlighted that intense competition in key automotive markets—especially China—has impacted both pricing and sales volumes.
Looking ahead, BMW Group expects full-year global deliveries to remain flat compared to last year, with the share of pure electric vehicle sales holding steady. The company stated it will further reduce capital expenditures, manufacturing costs, R&D spending, and sales and administrative expenses this year.

Given strong market momentum, AMD provided optimistic guidance. The company expects Q2 2026 revenue to be approximately $11.2 billion (±$300 million), representing about a 46% year-on-year increase and a 9% sequential rise. Non-GAAP gross margin is projected to be around 56%.
U.S. Crypto Exchange Coinbase Lays Off ~700 Employees, Eliminates Pure Management Roles, Introduces "Solo Teams"

Coinbase yesterday announced layoffs affecting approximately 14% of its workforce, totaling around 700 employees. CEO Brian Armstrong attributed the move to two concurrent factors in a company-wide email: a cyclical downturn in the cryptocurrency market and AI fundamentally transforming how the company operates.
Armstrong noted that over the past year, engineers using AI have compressed work that previously took teams weeks into just days, while non-technical teams are now able to directly deliver production code. Much of the workflow is being automated. He announced a parallel organizational restructuring:
- Management layers will be capped at five levels below the CEO/COO;
- "Pure management roles" will be eliminated—every leader must also be an active individual contributor, acting as a "player-coach";
- The company will reorganize around "AI-native teams," exploring lean structures such as "solo teams," where one person fulfills the roles of engineer, designer, and product manager.
Affected U.S. employees will receive at least 16 weeks of base salary, plus two additional weeks per year of service, access to the next equity vesting event, and six months of COBRA health insurance.
Employees on work visas will receive additional transition support, while those outside the U.S. will receive compensation aligned with local regulations. Coinbase estimates the total cost of the layoffs to be between $50 million and $60 million, primarily for severance and employee benefits, with the process largely completed by the second quarter of this year.
💡 Pop Mart CEO Says Not Worried About LABUBU Fading: Emotional Connection Grows After Purchase

According to Sina's "5D Investigation" report, Wang Ning, Chairman and CEO of Pop Mart, recently responded to public concerns about whether the popularity of the LABUBU IP can be sustained.
He said he is not worried about the IP suddenly losing favor, explaining that once consumers take the product home, “they continue to build emotional connections with it, creating new value.”
Regarding LABUBU’s operational strategy, Wang revealed that during its peak popularity, the company proactively paused many new product launches—products originally scheduled for release in 2025 were delayed to 2026—and halted all offline marketing activities and external collaborations.
Good licensing empowers a product, but if done poorly, it becomes a drain.
Reflecting on his personal experience in 2025, Wang described the year as “like someone who just learned to drive being thrown into an F1 race,” admitting it was “the most stressful, sleep-deprived, and physically taxing year in recent times.”
When discussing future challenges, Wang emphasized organizational issues, noting that rapid growth often masks internal problems.
If we only focus on high growth and the surface-level success of LABUBU, these underlying issues will accumulate and eventually become major problems.

Metalenz Demonstrates Under-Display "Face ID," Expected to Launch in 2028

According to Wired, optical startup Metalenz recently showcased its Polar ID under-display deployment solution at Display Week in Los Angeles. This facial recognition system can be hidden beneath OLED screens, completely eliminating the need for camera cutouts.
Polar ID leverages metasurface optics and polarized light sensing technology, using a single-layer nanostructured flat lens to capture light and distinguish real faces from silicone masks.
CEO Rob Devlin stated that multiple third-party testing agencies have confirmed the system meets the "highest security standards." While the under-display implementation requires localized thinning of the display panel, Devlin claims the area is visually imperceptible and does not affect image quality.
For mass production, the standard version of Polar ID is expected to launch in smartphones and laptops next year, while the under-display version is projected to enter the market by 2028. Metalenz has partnered with Qualcomm and is currently in early discussions with several major smartphone manufacturers regarding the under-display solution.

Inworld AI Launches Realtime TTS-2 Voice Model: Emotion-Aware, Maintains Same Voice Across 100 Languages

Yesterday, Inworld AI launched its next-generation voice model, Realtime TTS-2, releasing it in research preview form via the Inworld API and Inworld Realtime API for developers.
The core advancement of TTS-2 lies in shifting from a unidirectional text-to-speech pipeline to a closed-loop real-time dialogue architecture: the model directly receives actual audio from conversations, enabling it to perceive the user’s tone, rhythm, and emotional state, and respond accordingly. The new version introduces four new capabilities:
- Voice Direction: Describe vocal expression in natural language, e.g., "tired but gentle, like someone who just got home from work." The model adjusts voice style accordingly without relying on fixed emotion labels;
- Conversational Awareness: Automatically receives prior audio within Realtime sessions, allowing tone and rhythm to carry over across conversational turns;
- Crosslingual Support: A single voice identity can seamlessly switch across more than 100 languages, maintaining consistent vocal characteristics and enabling multilingual mixing within a single generation;
- Advanced Voice Design: Create reusable voice personas through text descriptions alone—no reference audio required—and choose among three modes: "Expressive," "Balanced," and "Stable."
Additionally, the model supports inline non-speech tags (e.g., 【laughs】 【sighs】), voice cloning (with just a 5–15 second audio sample), and achieves TTS first-token latency under 200 milliseconds.

Yesterday, Xiaohongshu issued an announcement for special governance targeting违规 accounts impersonating its official “Surprise Box” campaign. These accounts used names such as “Surprise Box” or highly similar variations, and were found reposting official content, spreading “how-to薅羊毛 guides,” directing traffic to private domains, or attaching commercial links.
The platform requires offending accounts to rectify issues within one week, including standardizing account names, removing non-compliant content, and disbanding related group chats. Accounts failing to comply will face measures such as reduced visibility or suspension.
BYD ends free charging for employees at company campuses

Starting yesterday, BYD officially ended its policy of free charging for employees at all campuses nationwide. All AC chargers, DC chargers, and flash chargers within company premises have transitioned to paid usage.
As reported by Bianews, multiple users shared screenshots on social media showing the new charging fee structure at BYD campuses. Previously circulated internal notices indicated that the adjustment took effect starting May 6. According to BYD’s official notice, the change aims to “optimize charging resource allocation, improve utilization efficiency, and ensure long-term stable operation of facilities.”
The pricing consists of electricity costs and a service fee. Electricity rates follow local time-of-use industrial and commercial tariffs, while the service fee is fixed at ¥0.10 per kWh.
Charging prices vary significantly across regions. For example, at BYD’s Shenzhen campus, off-peak electricity costs ¥0.27/kWh, totaling ¥0.37/kWh with the service fee; peak rates rise to ¥1.11/kWh, bringing the total to ¥1.21/kWh.
At the Shanghai Songjiang residential area’s Zhichong station, off-peak rates are ¥0.51/kWh and peak rates reach ¥1.20/kWh; at Xi’an Gaoxin apartment’s Zhichong station, off-peak electricity is priced at ¥0.45/kWh.
