Still processing this. Might be the end of apps. Most phone launches these days are 90% boring. Basically routine spec bumps with 2 minor changes and that’s it. This launch from Huawei isn't that. They are pushing for agents to act across the OS and proactively complete any tasks instead of constantly opening apps and tapping through things And it combines both local AND cloud models. Because the next step for agents isn't just making the models smarter... It's giving them a full operating system, hardware and interfaces that are designed around them from the beginning. And that seems to be what Huawei is building here. The hardware is also pretty wild. The Mate XT 2 moves from the previous Z-fold design to a wing-style tri-fold, while adding a dedicated rigid cover screen. There's also a hardware-level privacy display on the large inner screen, so people looking from the side can't read what's on it. But I think the chip is the thing to watch. A lot of people questioned whether Tau Scaling Law + LogicFolding would actually move from research/thesis into a real consumer product. (They’ve introduced the (τ) Scaling Law in May as a chip design principle that shifts focus from transistor shrinking (aka Moore's Law) to minimizing signal propagation time and system latency (τ)) But now it has moved to an actual product. And if Huawei can translate that into better sustained performance, thermals and on-device AI... This could be much more important than another flagship launch. We're starting to see phones become hardware built specifically for the agent era. Not that surprising to be honest since many labs are building their own custom chips to run models but that’s the very first time that we have a consumer product made for this. You can be sure that the whole industry is going to copy this. Huawei cooked.
