What does the word "humanities" actually mean? I've come to absolutely hate this word because it seems to lump a bunch of unrelated things together including a priori truth (philosophy, sometimes mathematics), social sciences (polisci, sociology), arts (music, literature) and God knows what else. What's the purpose of such a pointlessly vague word?
