This Week in Spring - July 21st, 2026
Engineering | Josh Long | July 21, 2026 | 1 min read | 0 Comments
Welcome to another installment of _This Week in Spring_! I'm writing this while enjoying a cup of coffee from the Caribbean on a little PTO. How're you doin'? Whenever I go on PTO, I like to sit by some body of water with a coffee and a laptop nearby. I alternate between plunges in the ocean and coding and sipping coffee. And learning. Learning is how you keep the ol' mind movin'. There's so much to get into from this last week, so let's dive right into it.
- I did a roving tour of the basics of Spring, from _beans to Boot_, in this video here. Please check it out! If you want to understand what motivates Spring, what makes it tick: this video is for you!
- An interesting Spring AI course for Udemy that I'd not seen before
- Check out this amazing article on building AG-UI (Agentic UIs) with the Java SDK
- Our friend at SivaLabs has a nice post on building chat with Spring AI](https://www.sivalabs.in/blog/spring-ai-chat-with-llms/)
- Interesting (paywalled) article on how to use Spring AI (as opposed to making raw HTTP requests to the various models)
- Interesting (Italian-language) discussion of how to do RAG with Spring AI
- Of all the things, I just stumbled upon an interesting presentation on building with Spring AI and Embabel
- I'm looking at this project I just discovered called Capstead, which aims to provide governance and (more granular) observability for your AI capabilities](https://github.com/satya-anguluri/capstead). It looks to sit on top of something like Spring AI (and Spring Boot). Interesting!
- In last week's installment of _A Bootiful Podcast_, I had the privilege of sitting down with Spring ecosystem legend Russ Miles to talk about more productive AI interactions
- I loved this latest post on Spring AI from _Spring in Action_ author and legend Craig Walls, this one on persistent chat memory with Spring AI
