This Week in Spring - August 25th, 2026
Engineering | Josh Long | August 25, 2026 | 1 min read | 0 Comments
Hi, Spring fans! Welcome back to another installment of _This Week in Spring_. It’s a big week ahead: I’m about to head out on a packed tour through Europe—Wrocław for a friend’s wedding, Oslo for JavaZone, Paris for a Spring meetup (details coming soon), Amsterdam for IntelliJ IDEA conf—and then on to Kansas City for KCDC. Busy? Absolutely. Fun? Even more so.
And since I’ll be spending plenty of time in the air, I’ve got plenty of reading to catch up on. Here are some of the standout resources from this week’s roundup.
- Spring AI Recipe: Better RAG Results with Hypothetical Document Embeddings (HyDE)
- Craig Walls is back with another great Spring AI write-up, this time on the ReACT paradigm
- Yet another well-done Spring AI introduction - I dig it!
- Spring AI 2.0.1 is available
- Spring Integration 7.2.0-M1 available now
- Spring AMQP 4.2.0-M1 available now
- Spring Batch 6.0.5 and 6.1.0-M1 available now
- Spring Data 2026.1.0-M1, 2026.0.1, and 2025.1.7 released
- Spring Cloud 2025.1.3 (aka Oakwood) has been released
- Spring Boot 4.2.0-M1 available now
- Spring Boot 4.1.1 available now
- Spring Boot 4.0.8 available now
- RabbitMQ vs Kafka. I'm pretty biased. But this is a pretty good comparison
- I love Wimdeblauwe's new book on crafting Spring Boot starters, with a forward by Spring Boot founder Phil Webb, no less!
- I love this post on the New Stack, on the _real_ cost of building a DIY platform
- The latest release of the unofficial, third-party project BootUI, by friend of the community Julien Dubois, is here
- In last week's installment of _A Bootiful Podcast_, I was delighted to sit down with JRuby lead Charles Nutter
