This is one of my favorite ideas in all of writing. Ed Sheeran calls it the dirty tap. Turn it on, dirty water flows out for a long time. Eventually clean water starts coming. He's talking about songs but it's true for all creative work. Every CEO memo that got quoted. Every keynote that landed. Every email that actually changed someone's mind. All of it came out of a dozen bad drafts first. The dirty water is necessary. You need to get the bad ideas out before the good ones come. That's just how it works.
